Organisational details of the procedure

Most patients have their consultation, examination and operation all on the same day. However, we also offer you the opportunity to sit in on the one-hour informational consultation with Dr. Merck and the patient scheduled for a certain day. This is free of charge for you and without obligation. After the talk, you may ask Dr. Merck or the surgeon scheduled to perform the procedure a few of your own questions. If you decide for the operation, you may then make an appointment for your own operation. For both of the possibilities, please be sure to arrange an appointment with us.

If you make an appointment for an operation with Dr. Merck's stitch method, we will ask you arrive at 8.45 a.m. on the day of the operation for photo documentation. After the photo documentation there is an informational consultation with Dr. Merck which will be finished between 10.30 and 11 a.m. The morning operation will start at about 11 a.m. and will end between 1 and 1.30 p.m. You may eat and drink before the operation. In fact, we recommend that you take a light breakfast. Please do not drink alcohol on the day of the operation. The afternoon operation will begin at about 2.30 p.m. and will end between 4.30 and 5 p.m. Slight delays cannot always be avoided. Please consider this particularly when scheduling your train trips and flight arrangements back home. Even if your operation is set in the afternoon, we ask you to be present at 8.45 a.m. for the photo documentation. The waiting time until the operation in the afternoon can be filled with shopping, having lunch or a coffee. One hour before the operation we will apply a cream with a topical anaesthetic on your ears. You might want to bring a head band with you which you can wear after the cream has been applied. This enables you to go for a walk while waiting, if you choose.

There is no need for a follow-up examination. After the operation you may return home. You are not, however, allowed to drive. Please take the train, or plane, or make sure that somebody can give you a ride.
